Carrie Cracknell to direct Tom Stoppard’s witty masterpiece Arcadia at the Old Vic
     

Today, The Old Vic is delighted to announce the next production in Artistic Director Matthew Warchus’ final Season.

Marking the start of the new year, acclaimed director Carrie Cracknell (Sea Wall/A Life, Grapes of Wrath) will make her Old Vic debut with Tom Stoppard’s contemporary classic Arcadia.

Witty, moving and flirtatious, Arcadia is at The Old Vic from 24 Jan–21 Mar 2026, with a press performance on Wed 04 Feb.

Director Carrie Cracknell said, ‘Tom Stoppard’s greatest play is a dazzling meditation on our endless search for understanding — of ourselves, of history and of the patterns that connect everything from mathematics to desire. In an age overflowing with cheap information but hungry for wisdom, Arcadia feels more prescient than ever. Its wit, beauty and curiosity remind us that the pursuit of knowledge is a deeply human joy.’

Premiered at the National Theatre in 1993, this new production of Arcadia will be the first time it has ever appeared on The Old Vic stage.

In Artistic Director Matthew Warchus’ final Season all productions will take place completely In The Round, forming an intimate seating configuration that surrounds the stage.
